Essaouira & Atlantic coast tour

It is a private coastal trip built around Essaouira and the windward Atlantic seaboard it sits on — the UNESCO medina and the Skala sea ramparts, the blue fishing port, the argan country inland, the wild beaches at Sidi Kaouki and Diabat, and, on the longer trips, the coast road north to the potters' city of Safi and the oyster lagoon at Oualidia. You travel with your own licensed driver-guide and vehicle at your own pace, never pooled with strangers. We are an operator based on this coast, so you book direct.

It scales to your time. A half-day covers the Essaouira medina and the Skala ramparts; a full day adds the wild beach at Sidi Kaouki. Two to four days based in a medina riad fold in the argan road and climbing goats, the wild beaches and the dunes at Diabat, and — on the four-day flagship — the full coast road north to Safi's blue-and-white pottery and the Oualidia oyster lagoon, then back down the seaboard.

The flagship four-day trip runs roughly 175 km up the coast from Essaouira to Safi and the Oualidia lagoon, with the longer return leg around 230 km back down the seaboard — slower and prettier than the inland motorway, with the Atlantic rarely out of sight. The shorter trips stay close to Essaouira: Sidi Kaouki is about a fifteen-minute drive south, and Diabat is just across the river mouth. Times are approximate and depend on stops and season.

Our real coastal trips start from $45 per person for the half-day guided medina and Skala ramparts walk, from $85 for the Sidi Kaouki beach day, and from $290 for the two-day Coastal Essaouira and argan trip; the four-day Atlantic-edge run to Oualidia is from $720 per person. Multi-day prices include a private driver-guide, vehicle, the listed riads and the meals named in each itinerary. There is no deposit to receive a written quote.

Honestly, yes — Essaouira sits in the path of the Atlantic trade winds, the Alizés, which is exactly why it is a world-class surf and kitesurf town and why the medina stays cool in summer. The wind is strongest on afternoons from April to September and gentler in the mornings and through autumn; the walled medina, the port and the souks are sheltered and comfortable year-round. Safi and the Oualidia lagoon to the north are calmer. Spring and autumn are mild and clear; bring a genuine windproof layer whatever the month.

Both are genuine. Goats really do climb the argan trees to reach the fruit; we only stop at roadside groves where the herd lives and grazes freely, never at staged spots where animals are tethered for photos, and sightings are best in late spring and summer. Oualidia is Morocco's premier oyster-farming lagoon, where flat oysters are cultivated in a semi-enclosed tidal bay and eaten metres from the water — we visit licensed farms only.
