Overview
Two unhurried days based in Essaouira's medina: the Skala ramparts and fishing port, a women's argan cooperative on the inland road, and the famous goats grazing in the argan trees.
Essaouira rewards slowness. Over two days we trade the rush of a day trip for the rhythm of the town itself: a riad inside the UNESCO medina, a morning on the ramparts, an evening of grilled sardines on the port, and an inland loop into the argan forest that surrounds the city.
The argan tree grows almost nowhere else on earth but this corner of southwestern Morocco — a UNESCO biosphere reserve. On the back roads you will see the famous tree-climbing goats balanced in the branches, and we stop at a women's cooperative where the oil is still cracked and pressed by hand. The trip stays close to home; Essaouira is the base, not a stop on the way to somewhere else.

Day 1 · Medina, ramparts and the port at dusk
EssaouiraCheck into your riad in the medina. An afternoon walk with a local guide: the souks, the thuya woodworkers, the Skala de la Ville. As the light drops we move down to the fishing port for a grill of the day's sardines, then sunset on the ramparts.

Day 2 · The argan road and the climbing goats
Argan country inlandA morning loop inland on the Marrakech road into the argan biosphere. We stop where the goats balance in the branches, then at a women's cooperative to watch the nuts cracked and the oil pressed by hand, and buy direct. Back in Essaouira for a free afternoon on the beach or in the medina.

Is Essaouira always windy?
Almost. Essaouira sits in the path of the Atlantic trade winds — the 'Alizés' — which is exactly why it is a world-class surf and kitesurf town and why the medina stays cool in summer. The wind is strongest in the afternoons from April to September and gentler in the morning and through autumn. The walled medina, the port and the souks are sheltered and always comfortable; we bring a windproof layer for every client.
When should I book?
For high season (Sep–Apr), the June Gnaoua festival, and any trip with a surf or kitesurf lesson, book 4–8 weeks ahead. Last-minute is usually still possible with a phone call.
Are the goats in the argan trees real?
Yes — and entirely natural. Goats genuinely climb the argan trees to reach the fruit; it has happened on this coast for centuries. We only stop at roadside groves where the herd lives and grazes freely, not at staged tourist spots where animals are tethered for photos. Sightings are best in late spring and summer.
