Why Casablanca
Casablanca sits on the same Atlantic coast as Essaouira, some 350 km north, and is the country's largest city and main international airport hub (CMN). It is not the imperial-romantic Morocco of postcards — it is a working modern metropolis of art-deco boulevards from the French period, an ocean corniche, and the staggering Hassan II Mosque built out over the water. For coastal travellers it is most useful as the arrival point: many guests land here and drive south down the seaboard through El Jadida and Oualidia to Essaouira. We build the city itself in as a half-day for those who want to see it properly before heading to the coast.

For most leisure travellers, a half-day around the Hassan II Mosque and the art-deco centre is enough. Spend your nights down the coast in Essaouira, or inland in Marrakech, rather than in the city.
Casablanca (CMN) has the most long-haul flights and connects to the Atlantic coast road south; Essaouira-Mogador (ESU) takes you straight to the coast. We often arrange the open-jaw: into CMN with a scenic drive south, out from ESU or Marrakech.
