Why Atlas Mountains
The High Atlas rises straight out of the Marrakech plain, an hour beyond the city and a natural high-country addition to a coastal Morocco trip. Within 60 minutes of leaving Marrakech you can be in Imlil at 1,740 m, among Berber villages, walnut and cherry orchards, and trails that climb to Jbel Toubkal — the highest mountain in North Africa at 4,167 m. Where Essaouira offers sea-level air and trade wind, the Atlas offers altitude, snow in winter and cool nights. It works as a day trip, a weekend at a mountain lodge, or a proper 2–3 day trek with guides and mules, usually slotted in alongside Marrakech before the run down to the coast.

Can you climb Toubkal without a guide?+
Since the 2018 incident a licensed guide is mandatory. We use a small panel of certified local mountain guides we've worked with for years.
Is the Atlas worth visiting if I don't trek?+
Absolutely — Asni, Ouirgane and Ourika all offer comfortable lodge stays with short, easy walks. Many guests use the Atlas as a quiet mountain pause between Marrakech and the Essaouira coast.
