Why Agadir

Agadir is the next major town down the Atlantic coast from Essaouira, about two and a half hours south, and a very different kind of beach. Rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake as Morocco's premier resort, it offers a sweeping crescent of golden sand, a palm-lined promenade, calmer and warmer water than windy Essaouira, and over 300 days of sunshine a year. It is less about old medinas — there is little historic fabric left — and more about sea, sun and downtime, with the rebuilt kasbah hilltop above the bay, the surf village of Taghazout just north, and the palm-shaded pools of Paradise Valley in the Anti-Atlas behind. For our guests it is the warm-water, lie-on-the-beach counterpoint to the cooler, more characterful coast at Essaouira.

FAQ

Agadircommon questions.

Is Agadir worth visiting?+

If you want beach, sun and surf rather than old-city atmosphere, yes. Agadir is the country's best resort base, with reliable sunshine year-round and easy access to Taghazout and Paradise Valley.

Is Agadir or Essaouira better?+

Agadir is sunnier, warmer and more resort-oriented with a bigger beach; Essaouira is windier but far more atmospheric, with a historic medina and ramparts. Many travellers combine both along the coast.
