The wide, gently shelving main bay is the classic spot: side-shore trade winds, flat-to-choppy water and plenty of space, making it a favourite for windsurfers and kitesurfers from beginner-friendly schools to freeriders.
The alizés blow most reliably and strongest from around April to September, especially in the afternoons. Mornings are typically lighter — better for lessons — and autumn and winter are calmer with occasional cleaner surf swells.
About 25 km south, the long open beach of Sidi Kaouki catches more swell and wind than the sheltered bay. It is a laid-back, less developed spot popular with surfers and intermediate kite/windsurfers, with a few schools and cafes.
North of town, this rocky point is a strong-wind, wave-sailing spot that draws experienced windsurfers when it is firing. It is not a beginner location — best left to confident sailors.
